NOTW: Easy Rainbow Nail Art Tutorial

It's grey and miserable outside, so naturally I've painted my nails in all the colours of the rainbow to try and brighten the mood!

What do you think, pretty cool no? I'd actually tried water marbling before this but after 6 attempts and no luck I gave up before I started throwing things. I have no patience! My attempt at rainbow nails was much more fun and (I hope you'll agree) pretty successful!

Here's what you'll need:
  • Rad, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet polish (I counted both of the last two as "purple")
  • Clear top coat
  • Tape & Scissors
I didn't use tape, because I was rushing a bit and I was too lazy, but if you're a stickler for straight lines I'd go for the tape :)

L-R: Barry M Bright Red, Collection 2000 HOT colours Neon Orange, Rimmel I ♥ Lasting Finish Sunshine, Rimmel I ♥ Lasting Finish Green Grass, Barry M Pale Blue, BonBons Purple.

Step 1: Paint your entire nail in a coat of your chosen red colour. Leave this to dry thoroughly before starting the next layer (I didn't leave them to dry properly and it went all mushy and too hours to go solid!)
Step 2: (sorry about the photo, don't know why that happened - I promise there's a layer of neon orange on there...) If you're using the tape method, place a strip of tape over the area of red and the top of your nail that you want to be visible at the end. Paint the rest of the nail orange. If you aren't using the tape method then leave a bit of red showing and paint the rest orange. Leave to dry thoroughly.

Step 3: Repeat with your yellow colour, leaving some orange showing and leave to dry thoroughly.

Step 4: Do the same again with the green colour and leave to dry thoroughly!

Step 5: Repeat with the blue colour.

Step 6: Finally, repeat with the purple colour and after it's dried seal with a top coat, then clean up around the edges.

Ta-daaaa! Here's what you're left with. Pretty cool rainbow nails! :)

Let me know if you try this! ♥

  12. Holy crap, these are amazing! Does it chip really easily though or look a little odd at the ends with so many layers??

    1. Hehe thanks! The lasted for ages- but they were a little bulky at the ends. Think that's because I rushed it too though and used some old gloopy nail varnishes. I think if I'd used thinner coats and actually waited for them to dry it would have been loads better :) Thanks for stopping by! x
