Review: Lauren's Way Self Tanning Bronzing Mousse

Hey lovelies! Got another review here for you today, but first I have to admit something to you all... I am a fake tan virgin! Yep, I've managed a whole 21 years without ever using fake tan - partly because I absolutely detested all the "orange barbies" when I was in high school, with their badly applied fake tan and over bleached hair - and partly because I'm terrified of making a mess and looking like a dork.

I recently won a bottle of Lauren's Way Self Tanning Bronzing Mousse and since it's been so sunny recently I thought it was a great excuse to give it a go and get my legs out! I've read lots of good reviews so I was looking forward to trying this!

My legs are relatively brown anyway (thanks Mum, for the Italian skin!) and surprisingly they've held a lot of my tan from my holiday last summer. Here's a shot of my legs pre-bronzing - sorry the lights a bit rubbish!

I went hunting around the house for the tanning mitt that I knew I'd bought over Easter and realised, with dismay, that I'd left it at home... but I decided to be a trooper and have a go at applying it with my hands anyway.

The mousse dispenses easily out of the bottle but as you can see from the photo, it looks a little dubious!! It was a little darker than I was expecting so I was a little bit worried, but as you'll see it doesn't go on your skin as dark as you'd expect from the colour of the mousse. It also has quite a nice smell. I am quite used to the strange biscuit smell of fake tans from having friends that over-used it and this one smells a little more citrus-y I think. It's quite a nice smell!

Hopefully, you can see here (again sorry for the rubbish lighting) than the tan has gone on really nicely, even though I applied it with my clumsy hands! The difference between the before and after is nice and subtle, but it is noticeable enough to feel like I've got a nice glow :) There was no streaks and no nasty dark areas on my knees or ankles - and I didn't even apply moisturiser beforehand. I also found that it dried really quickly and didn't feel sticky or leave any stains anywhere.

Overall, I am hugely impressed with this product as it is perfect to use if it's your first time tanning, you really can't go wrong! Although, word of warning - absolutely do use a mitt to apply it, as you can see from the photo my hands were left a very gross colour after just tanning my legs and I had to use lemon juice (which works wonders) to scrub it off!

Have you used any Lauren's Way products before? Or tried fake tan? ♥

  2. Your legs were far browner in the first place than mine are even after fake tan! Jealous! I've been mm-ing and ahh-ing about trying some fake tan for my legs, my top half tans incredibly easily but my legs are incredibly stubborn and pale. I might give this one a go now, despite my dislike of anything TOWIE, it looks like it goes on fantastically! x

  3. I am way too Irish for fake tan. I did do a professional spray tan once but I don't think I would try it myself.

    1. Yeah I've always been firmly against it and I'd never buy it for myself. But since I won it I thought I may aswell give it a go! xx

  4. The last time I used one was about 5 years ago when it wasn't very good. But I've heard a few of them are actually pretty good so I'm anxious to try one!

  5. It looks really good, dark but natural. You are very lucky though cos you don't look like you actually need to fake tan, unlike me with my milk bottle legs! xx

    1. Hehe thanks lovely! I definitely looks natural which is great because the whole fakey orange look is the reason I've never used one before! xxx

  7. You are lucky as already had a base tan to work from, so streaks will be less visible. But looks great anyway :)

  8. I'm also a "tan virgin", apart from one disaster occasion when my stepmum who's a hairdresser and owns a salon offered to get me a spray tan done. All very well, stripped down to my knickers and got the job done. It looked quite nice, was pleased and headed home. A few hours later... I looked like a bright shiny orange.
And it was my dad's birthday so I appeared in a series of family photos, amongst an array of wintery pale faces there I was - someone from another planet, really really dark with a horrible orangey tint. And did I mention shiny?? Why so shiny? Ehhrr.

Anyway, a day or two later it settled in, faded a bit and looked quite nice. Everyone at school thought I'd gone on holiday or something.

But needless to say I never got the courage to get a self tan done myself, I rely on my portuguese skin (lucky us, with our mediterranean heritage!) and gradual tan moisturizers!

I'm using St.Tropez gradual tan in Light/Medium at the moment, I love it because it smells so nice, but hasn't made much of a difference I guess because I'm not that pale to begin with.. must try the Medium/Dark one.

That one looks great on you, well done!x

    1. Haha of course you're a tan virgin! It's not like you've ever need it with all that sunshine :) Though now you're in Ireland it might be a good time to invest in some :P

It sounds like you had quite a few beauty related disasters at that salon! You poor thing :( Ahh well I say you should always try something once!

    2. Yes now that I'm in the UK I will definitely think about it! However if this good weather keeps up I might be able to develop a nice tan :) I've caught the sun this weekend so let's see how it goes :P

Come to think of it, most of my beauty related disasters happened at that salon, but thank god that was about it! I once cut off quite a big chunk off my hair when I was trying to get out one of those braidy things, done with diferent coloured threads and beads? , but that happened at home. Yes at least I can say I tried it and also I can advise people: if you ever get a spray tan, don't go out that evening, just stay at home - alone!

  9. It looks lovely on you - dark but natural! I have heard great things about this product, I've never touched fake tan either (and I'm 24 next month ha!), I've always been scared of turning out orange and patchy but I'm quite tempted to try some out for my legs as they are near enough impossible to tan!
