Book Review: Yes Man by Danny Wallace

Hello dears! Since this is only my second book review yet, I think it's safe to say that I completely failed at my attempt of reading at least a book a month this year! Though it took me a long time to get through Yes Man, I've thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I was looking forward to reading this book before I'd even got stuck into it because I'd heard lots of good things about it, previously read a fantastic book by Danny Wallace's comedian friend and of course, seen the movie starring Jim Carey that is very loosely based on the book. I can say that I was definitely not disappointed either.

I really enjoyed Danny Wallace's humorous personal style of writing - the book is almost like an extremely detailed diary, with a photo to accompany each new chapter and some excerpts from his actual diary too. You really identify with him throughout the book, and though he paints a bit of a sappy character of himself - you really want him to succeed in his mission of "Yes"!

Yes Man was a pretty motivational story that really does a good job of showing you the power of positive thinking. It's almost like it's a self help book subtly disguised as a true to life story. I'm not the sort of person who usually buys into all that self help nonsense but many times while reading this book I found myself wondering what my life would be like if I just said yes more too.

If you're after a funny and easy-to-read feel good story for the summer months, then this is definitely a book worth considering!

Have you read Yes Man, or any other books by Danny Wallace? ♥

  1. Must read this book, I'm afraid I'm quite into self-help books, I've only read a couple but they all send out the same kind of message : Say yes to your universe :) So this one sounds like a great mixture between that, and just a light funny read. Thanks for the review hun! xx

    1. This one you will definitely love then! It's a bit of a rollercoaster and quite silly at times too but the message behind it is very powerful :) Bit of a love story thrown in there too, can't go wrong ;) xxxx

    1. I've seen the blurb for Join Me - I've read Are You Dave Gorman? too and I love both of their writing styles so I might have to get Join Me on my Kindle! xxx

    1. I think really the movie just took the basic message behind the book, so it's quite different. Danny goes all over the world on his "journey of yes" and I seem to remember in the film they stay in America... plus Danny Wallace is a british comedian and radio presenter, so not at all like the movie! There is a little romance story in the book too though so that's similar :) xxxx

    2. Ah right. Yeah they did just stay in the states in the movie.
I have seen a lot of Danny Wallace's TV work and do like his dry sense of humour, so I might give it a go :)
He did actually make a breif cameo appearance in the movie :)

  8. I've read 'Join Me' by DW. It was really interesting. I love the idea of starting a cult based on doing nice things for strangers, so inspiring!
Love those mango cropped trousers. Great colour!

  9. Great review! I've read all Danny Wallace's books and loved them all - Yes Man was my favourite though!

I thought the book was so much better than the film! You can't beat bits like the dog painting incident! :-)
