Purse Friendly 'Tips' - 2 Manicures for £5 #8

Hi Guys,

I hope you've all had a lovely month since my last post! I've been very busy, October was a very hectic month for me, but I got to go to Holland and see my Dad so it was worth the stress. I'm taking this month to relax because we're moving next month. It's going to be the worst, we're moving about 200 miles and we only have a month to do it in, while thinking about Christmas as well, so we'll see how that goes!

On another note, how amazing is Rachael's new layout? I love the new look of Just Rach! I'm so proud to be contributing to such a beautiful blog!

So here are my Purse Friendly Tips! I made a new banner to match my new blog layout, you can check out my blog here.

For these manicures, here is what you'll need:
17 Holographic Nail Polish, MUA Shade 2

The silver holographic nail polish is from 17 at Boots and retails for £3.99. The MUA polish retails for £1 at Superdrug. The total for these two manicures is £4.99!

The theme for this post is dots. I've had a bit of an obsession with dots recently. However, I couldn't find my dotting tool so I just used the brush carefully.

We had sun as well when I was planning this post so I had to use a holo polish!

Onto the manicures...............

For my classic with a twist manicure I chose to do a dot gradient manicure. Here's how I did it:

Step One: Paint on two coats of the holographic brush and wait until it's touch dry.
Step Two: Using the brush of the black polish VERY carefully paint dots onto your nail. Do one row of big dots near the free edge of your nail, then do a second row slightly smaller, and then a third. You can carry on and do more rows but I stopped at 3.

Here it is, super simple! I only wish the holo effect was stronger. I bought this thinking it was cheaper than £3.99... For an extra £1, GOSH's new Holographic Hero has a much stronger linear effect. Anyway I still think this looks really pretty with the dots.

Pardon the black polish on the palm of my hand, I spilled some...

For my nail art manicure I decided to do half dotty nails. I am so in love with this manicure it's unbelievable. I think the colours look great together and it's something I'm going to wear more of!

Here's how to do it...

Step One: Paint all of your nails black except for your ring finger, paint that silver. Wait for it to be touch dry.
Step Two: Just to the side of the half way point of your nail, paint a vertical line of dots.
Step Three: Paint another line of dots next to that, and repeat until half of your nail has dots on it.

This is how it turned out:
Macro - LOVE this manicure!

Isn't that pretty? I love how the holo particles are really shiny!

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know what you think in the comments section or you could stop by and tell me on my own blog, Truly Polished!

See you next month!

  1. They look great! I wish I could do dots like that, whenever I try they turn out like big blobs! x

    1. Thank you! The only thing I can suggest for that is to drain as much polish off the brush as you can before doing the dots. It just takes practice... I'm forever losing my dotting tools so I had to learn a different way!

  2. Replies

    1. Glad you liked the post, I love silver too, I think it looks really nice with black, which is why I based the post around the two colours. I need to wear more silver, this holographic one is so pretty!
