Book Review: Knowing Vera by Rachelle Ayala

Knowing Vera by Rachelle Ayala is available on Amazon Kindle for just 77p!

Knowing Vera is a romantic suspense novel about a Philippino girl living in the USA, who lost her father under tragic circumstances. When she starts to receive cryptic messages from a man claiming to be her father, she gets dragged into a whirlwind adventure along with her on and off boyfriend Zach. The story not only follows Vera's quest to find out the truth about what really happened, but also to discover if she can finally let herself go and accept that Zach may truly be in love with her.

Vera is a very fiesty character and incredibly believable and relatable right from the offset. She struggles to let her guard down and let anybody in through her hard exterior at first and it's nice to see her progression through the story as she finds out more of the truth about her past, she begins to let go of her emotional barriers too. Vera was the main character and undoubtedly the star of the book, but supporting characters were well developed also.

Due to the nature of the book a slight air of suspense was kept around the supporting characters (even Zach) - you were never really sure who were the bad guys and who were the good until right towards the end of the book. I really enjoyed that the plot was not predictable at all and kept you guessing right the way through - this really allowed you to feel every emotion that Vera felt, you were often just as unaware of what was really going on as she was.

The general suspense and emotional grip of the book was excellent, I was hooked into the story almost immediately and couldn't put it down once I'd gotten about half way through. There were plenty of heart-wrenching and nerve-wracking moments, as well as a healthy dose of steamy romantic scenes!

I would absolutely recommend this book to others who love to read suspense books that really hook you in. I think it would be a great story to try if you're a lover of romantic novels but haven't read something with suspense and mystery combined before.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and am now looking forward to reading more by Rachelle Ayala. I give Knowing Vera 4 stars out of 5!

  1. I have to admit I do like a bit of romance when the mood hits me - I'll have to add this to my list for those times :).
