Link-Up: International Women's Day 2014 - Who Inspires You?

Tomorrow is International Women's Day and this years theme is "Inspiring Change", and so I thought it was the perfect time to share a post that I'd been thinking about writing for a while now. Who inspires me? Since this is for IWD I decided on the women who inspire me the most (although my list of anyone who I find inspiring consists mostly of women anyway!) and I've chosen my top four to share with you.

First and foremost, of course, my number one inspiring lady is absolutely my dear Mama. Sometimes we fight like two cats in a barrel and other times were the best of friends because we're practically the same person. I can always rely on my mum for the best advice, even though sometimes I won't accept it right away. And yes, as the saying goes - your mother is always right (but, shhhhh - don't tell her I said that!). Whether I need a cuddle or a wake-up call she's there to do the honours and always encourages me to reach my potential and beyond. She's the strongest person I know, with the best sense of humour and I'm so grateful that she's my mama. Love you loads mum! ♥

Second comes my beautiful little sister Hannah. My sister and I are like chalk and cheese, in every sense of the phrase! She's got dark hair, dark skin and dark eyes - basically all of the Italian genes went to her and I got left with a slight tan and eyebrows about 5 shades darker than the hair on my head. Personality wise, we're polar opposites - she's loud and a bit wild and I'm quite and (mostly) reserved. The older we get, the better we get along and I really think we bring out the best in each other. No matter what happens in my life I can always rely on Han to be there for me, ready with a shoulder to cry on or with fists at the ready adorably threatening to beat up any boy in my life who ever upset me. She always listens to my advice and gives some pretty good wise words herself too. She's as strong as an ox and the sort of person who couldn't care less what others think of her, and I really admire that.

Third on my list is someone who I met not too long ago on my most recent teaching placement, Sharon. I was completely inspired by the dedication and care that this woman put into her job looking after SEN children. I have never met someone so genuinely good and caring, who really wants to make the lives of the children she supports just that little bit better. It was inspiring to work alongside her and I feel genuinely lucky to have done so. If there were more people like that working in education, I really believe that we'd have no worries about future generations at all.

Fourth and final on my list comes the obligatory celebrity. Sandra Bullock is my ultimate lady crush. I have loved and adored every single character she's ever played, especially her recent gem Gravity and I feel like she's one of those celebrities that's always flown just gracefully under the radar. I can recall no major scandal, no slanderous gossip and no negative press. She's always smiling, she always looks naturally flawless and exudes a kindness and beauty I can only dream of achieving.

So now I'd like to know Who Inspires You?

Especially for International Women's Day 2014 I've created a link-up for you to share your stories of the inspiring women in your life. I don't mind what format it's written in as long as you pop along to a few of the other bloggers linked up and leave a nice comment! If you'd like to use my IWB button on your post, you can grab it below. I'll also be using the #IWB2014 on Twitter and Facebook if you're sharing your post.

    1. Thank you! :) I always love a good old family photo thrown in. Mine are particularly bad, I looked like a little boy when I was younger. There are barely any celebs that I admire or really look up to, I don't find myself that caught up with any sort of celeb hype, but there's always been something about Sandra that I've loved - oh and Helena Bonham Carter, she's a babe X

    2. To answer really seriously to your question, the woman I respect and admire the most is Simone Veil, who has been a great politician in my country. Survivor from nazis concentration camp, she fought a lot for women rights, and has always be an example of bravoure and compassion.
